Social + Sensitive Survival Guide

Owning Your Sensory Needs

Whether it’s a concert, graduation, holiday gathering or public seminar, big events can feel daunting for someone that experiences the world with more attunement. These events can bring up a lot of anxiety and oftentimes, avoidance or overwhelm.

I’m with you…

And here to share my go-to soul-care tips on how to survive crowded events and navigate sensory overload.

In order to stay present within yourself during hyper-stimulating events, establishing a set of boundaries ahead of time is key.

Highly Sensitive Thrive Guide:

1. Plan to attend the event with a grounding buddy/friend/family member.

2. Alert them before the event that you will have a time limit for yourself (and to arrange separate transportation if needed).

3. Set a time limit with your buddy! Ask your buddy to check in with you at that time to see if you would like to stay or go.

4. Be okay with leaving before your own personal time limit. If you are having trouble checking in with yourself, leave the area and find another spot to listen within about if you feel like staying.

5. Bring what you need: ear plugs, your own food and water refreshments, a blanket/ chair (to make your own personal space known to others), layers of clothing, sunglasses (so you can hide, if needed).

6. Find the bands, the people, the events, the tent, etc. that are more appealing and ditch what doesn’t work.

7. Seek a tree, or something that’s natural and grounding for you (although, this can hard be to do inside a building). Or, practice your own personal grounding with tree, nature or animal symbols that are resourcing within. Give yourself a “humanity moment”.
