Here we are – already mid-way through the year. I notice as each month of 2020 passes that I feel a residue of intensity and disbelief.
As I notice these responses inside myself:
“Whew… June was really heavy,”
“May felt overwhelming,”
“April lasted forever,”
“March? What a blur…”
…it can be a challenge not to feel like I’m lost in a maze of emotion.
What helps most is to pause, feel my heart beating inside my chest, my breath filling my belly and my blood flowing throughout my body. Being alive right now is a privilege, even if it feels tough.
But when will it all stop?
The relentless adjusting, shifting and rearranging of both my internal world and the external world.
In my private practice, I sit with people navigating the day-to-day emotions and situations of these rapidly shifting times we find ourselves living in.
There is so much outrage in our country right now: between the spike of new Covid cases, people refusing to wear masks, being asked to wear a mask, Black Lives Matter, political unrest and overhauling summer plans… uncertainty and anger are alive more than ever.
It can feel really, really scary to not know. Will the kids go back to school in the fall? Will my company shut down? Will I be a target of racial discrimination? Will I be judged for my beliefs by my friends, family and neighbors?
Loss of control is tolerable up to a certain point for most people. And then, we all reach a breaking point.
I have found that even in a space of defeat or collapse, I somehow gain wisdom.
And, perhaps that wisdom is to just surrender the confusion or angst and stop carrying it —even for just a day.
I surrender and resource in nature.
We are all trying to do the best we can in a chaotic climate. And… I want you to thrive as much as possible too!
We are being called to a new level of living. For this to evolve and serve each of us, we can practice surrender and kindness.
Little acts of kindness are needed NOW. Don’t wait to give that compliment, offer a helpful hand, safely rally with your community and those that face horrifying oppression. Even though the first part of 2020 has kind of dampened spirits and plans, right now really is the time to stand up.
But how do you take a stand and still simultaneously surrender?
Join me at the July Anxiety Relief Clinic on the 15th for a powerful teaching on diffusing anger, embracing uncertainty with surrender and making peace within.
Your actions matter now more than ever and the place to start is with sharing kindness. You never know how your caring gestures could change the life of someone in need of uplifting.
